History of the Scooterrally Toscano

The idea of organizing a scooter rally on the Island of Elba was born in 1999 at a Road Runner Rally in Imola, from the minds of three Tuscan scooter clubs: I Compagni di Merende from Lucca, the Ace of Spades from Pisa, and the Green Onions from Siena.

The first edition of the Scooter Rally Toscano took place in April 2000. Attendance was immediately encouraging and the atmosphere explosive. In those years everything felt new. The 2000s scared us a bit; it felt like everything was about to end, and that the era of Italian scootering had reached its conclusion. Looking back now, remembering those first editions, you could still breathe that 90s air, when subcultures were thriving and spare parts were impossible to find (except for Lambrettas).

As the years went on, starting from the fourth edition, foreign attendance grew steadily, making the rally truly international, thanks also to the help of the Rimini Lambretta Centre scooter shop, a real landmark for European scootering.

Over the years, two of the organizing clubs stepped aside, leaving the Green Onions alone to carry everything forward, but this didn’t dampen their spirit or drive (in fact, they kept going until 2011 with the twelfth edition). Throughout all those years, the Green Onions were part of SIR, the Italian Scooter Clubs Association, which has represented us since its foundation in 1999, with our club as a founding member.

In any case, the rallies grew over time, and riders young and old came from across half of Europe on their Lambrettas and Vespas to gather on the beach of Morcone on the Island of Elba and earn that long-desired patch. The format of the rally has never changed: you arrive tired from the trip, park your scooter, and between one beer and the next, one record and the next, you meet old and new friends and let the day carry you along. Then the music sweeps you up again: the Jamaican sounds of reggae draw you in and intoxicate you, and then you fall into the arms of northern soul and dance until morning. Not much more to add: a scooter run that brings all scooters together to enjoy the roads of the island, and a live show to hear the music we love so much. Many bands have played in Morcone over the years—Ray Daytona, Cleopatras, Martha Reeves, Pioneers, DC Fontana, Selecter, Bad Manners, Link Quartet, Graham Day & The Gaolers, just to name a few—and this is the spirit that represents us. A free spirit made of steel, vinyl, and love.

After 12 long years of waiting, the rally finally returned in 2024 with a bang, making itself heard once again!
